To see the Simple Thingsby scrum8Comment: Didn't vote but this is really nice. Just shows that what we ignore every day is actually interesting when we apply more scrutiny. A good point well made.

Learn to be nice, not nasty by steinarComment: Steinar - this is great stuff (all thanks to that fog machine obviously) - nicely intense and a great sense of 'is he/isn't he?'. You've got a future as a model at least if not a rather poor photographer.

Smell the flowersby heidaComment: You can also chieve this gritty, sharp effect by using a Gradient Map (mono grad) adjustment layer over the colour image at varying opacity, with the 'overlay' blend mode.
Very neat, irresistable technique. My only comment here would be that the treatment is strangely ominous given the subject. It suggests a drama that should be present but is in actual fact totally benign. This may be your intention(?) but for me it may be more appropriate to make this warmly rich in colour while retaining the clarity and definition that gives this shot it's appeal. |

Still alone waitingby PascalComment: Real shame about the tilt here, because this has great charm and character. Looks like an old French B-movie. You'd score much higher if you'd managed to notice this quite major flaw. |

Intimidationby shamelComment: Nice feeling of being on the outside. I'd like to have seen his feet to emphasise the detachment. Clean and almost over-crisp (NeatImage?). |

Ignoredby BeagleboyComment: Great capture of a moment played out everywhere. His tired resignation is clear and the contrast of lifestyles apparent in the person's clean dress and confident walk. Weather also helps the desolate vibe with a strong POV and choice of shallow DOF. Excellent stuff. |

1...2...3...Swingby jjbates4Comment: Nice little pic of a familiar moment for me! (The carrier not the carried)
The angle is a bit bland though (eye-level) and the centering, while not a flaw in itself, does not aid the comp. in landsacpe format. I can't help feeling that a portait arrangement may have worlked better, showing more of the way ahead. Exposure is a touch harsh. |

Window on Main Streetby admart01Comment: Simple, effective, everyday observation shot. A contemplative vibe, marred only a little by the overt blurring which Ifeel is a bit heavy-handed.
I have a feeling that the composition may have been stronger if the subjects were right of the frame, with more space to the left adding strength to daydream like gaze of the person on the right. |
