Dead Endby zeuszenComment: The image takes after Gueorgui Pinkhassov: "SOVIET UNION. Russia. Near Moscow. Circa 1980".
-not that this would make any difference to those who had already decided that this entry does not meet the challenge before bothering to find out. Message edited by author 2006-02-01 20:31:06. |

Fatal Encounterby davidus428Comment: Not just a very good capture but also an esthetic tour de force: the hues associated with such a meticulously shallow dof are a delight indeed. |

Recipie acidentby PicoComment: Originally posted by Pug-H: .. it's a wonderful crazy shot. However, I think the border is a wee bit thick. |
...and I wish for just a bit more contrast (to render the true blacks black).
Nevertheless, the capture is remarkable enough for a 7 or an 8, in my book. It is regrettable that, apparently, many voters sought to penalize this entry instead of learning from it -and acknowledging the opportunity by voting accordingly.
All I can do is to compensate for this in the only way available to me and elect it my 'favourite'. |

The Last Minuteby jjbeguinComment: No steel empyrean could be better placed than above such expanse of night. This is a poignantly balanced image, both compositionally and via a remarkably delicate treatment of colour, hue and tone.
No postcard could afford us such clear poetry.
And the graceful reception of negligible comments too
fits this. Message edited by author 2005-11-18 01:01:47. |

Amphitheaterby CutterComment: The dramatic contrast between the two unique textures is so marvelously contained in this photo which is equally a meditation or an idyll.
Despite an appreciable tonal smoothness achieved in the lighter areas between the benches/steps, some textural details, unfortunately, appear to have been altered to the point of artifice via Neat Image or some other means of post-processing. This is most regrettable, IMO, beyond the middle (the canopy of the trees)- and in the background (on the rock face), where the intricacies sit.
I would have loved to see them rendered naturally, particularly in an image of such dynamic composition and remarkable potential. |

Night walkby pmottaComment: Yes!
I'd like to encourage anyone viewing this image to peruse Pietro's portfolio as well. There is much considered interest, IMO, in a relatively small collection. |
