I like the almost abstract presentation of this. Why a five and not a six? The lighting, especially in the distance (the glacier, I suppose), feels a bit harsh. I think shooting earlier or later in the day might have produced more dramatic shadows and offered a lot more options. Still, it's very compelling, and I like the cool tones and quirky geological forms.

I do like this. I wonder if it's candid. A slightly better angle for your subject, something that showed him passionately engaging bow to strings in silhouette, might have put this over the top into six or seven territory for me. If it's candid though (as I suspect it is) then the opportunity just might not have presented itself.

Love the scene you chose, but I was a little unsure about the composition. The right side has some dead weight (the wall). Also, the eye (my eye anyway)jumps to the window and from there, the ceiling, which I suspect is most awesome, but alas, very little of it is visible. I also feel like some foreground elements of some interest might have also been cropped, but I'm not sure. A portrait view of the same scene might have put you into my land of six.

So now you know. And if you didn't get a six from me, it might interest you to know that this is my nine thousandth comment here.

Her expression is beautiful, and the warm sepia processing with the blurred background are spectacular. It has a vintage feel to it. As such, I admit to being a little disappointed at seeing a very modern toy in her hands (I have a small screen and had to scroll down to find it). In fact, I didn't realize it was a camera until I saw your title.

Is this your daughter? My personal quibbles aside, this is an endearing candid, something to be proud of and share.

I very much like the compositon -- the way the winding road takes us in and out of the perpindicular trees. The colors are pleasing too. Why just a five? Plain and simple -- I don't like the processing. It feels like it got a dose of Topaz or HDR, and I'm not a fan of that look. However, I appreciate that you used it in moderation, and at the end of the day, I still rather like this image.

I like that you were able to take the viewer right into the action. Technically, it's very good -- the light (which I suspect was challenging), the focus, etc. Why just a five? I don't feel like I'm seeing a real moment of activity here. Feels like a moment between moments. Also, the player in focus is blocked by Chara there. And there's a clipped stick off to the right. Maybe I just don't watch enough hockey...

Beautifully composed, and technically speaking, it's just about perfect. Why a five and not a six? I feel like I've seen this before. And will see it again. Perhaps if I were a mountain or landscape photographer, I'd feel differently. And maybe that's just it. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm attracted to things with more mystery, more ambiguity. I do like black and white landscapes, but I feel like this one needs more black.

A nicely executed candid and good job with the lighting. A five and not a six because this feels like a family snapshot. And don't get me wrong -- there's no shame in family snapshots. But I suspect this particular one offers more to, say, family than to a stranger in a photo contest.
