The Mediterranean Sea at Limassol, Cyprus. Across: Lebanon

Taken while waiting with family; a short time before we left for my younger sister's funeral service. She lived on the island and died of cancer, age 53.
This view, the pride of the propriety owners, appeared that day so poignantly bare, devoid of life and hauntingly depressing.

It took some time before I found the processing to make this scene look the way it felt.

Haunting, creating a palpable sense of longing. Brilliantly processed. Stark and raw, like grief. So very sorry for your loss.

It is images like this that make me not like this site.

You are one of my favorite photographers on this site, and as I went through this challenge voting I flipped through this image and saw it as empty but technically sound and gave it a 6.

Now that I know it is yours, and I know a small part of the why, and the who of the image I can see that it is still empty, but that emptiness is vast and focused. The absence comes not form a lack of something to say, but but from a missing place beyond words or concrete iconography. It is an image worthy of serious attention. I wonder how many other images from photographers who's work I do not already know I miss each time I vote as I flip....flip....flip.In the future I will try to slow down and give images their due time.

I'm sorry for your loss, you seem to be going to too many funerals lately.

Looking at it, before I read anything, I felt a horrible pull into a featureless endlessness. What bvy said, profoundly unsettling.

such a lonely image. You portray grief in a healing way.

Believe it or not, I could not comment on your entry. It transmits so much sadness that I thought of being the last view of a hospitalized person. In Greece! Where else would you have the sea view at hand and of this color?! Very sorry for your loss. Life is undoubtedly cruel for reasons unknown to us.

So sorry to hear of your loss; too soon for her to leave you. This photograph, even without your notes - evoked a sense of loss to me. May you look upon it kindly in years to come.

53 is way to young. You've created a beautiful photograph in the time of your loss. A clarity of vision that is almost frighting. Thank you for helping me slow down and appreciate life more than I did before I understood the profound undertaking this image took on your part.

Okay, seriously, for a photo that was just shot out of the window, this is really a great shot! I'm extremely impressed with the symmetry and creativity in this shot that 999 out of a 1000 photographers would have just passed by... Be really proud of this shot! 10

Why do I find this so terrifying? Or profoundly unsettling? The title only adds to the mystery.

My pick of the challenge. A ten for you.

A beautiful picture, a modern incarnation of a Kertész. The title suggests that you already know how good it is. Thank you.

At my very first glance, I thought ordinary and moved on. I've now subsequently come back to it and realized this is a great image! Love the deep dark blues of the ocean and the dramatic contrast with the sky! Changed original vote to a 7.

If it weren't for the curtains this would remind me of a Christopher Pratt painting. Stark, bold graphics, limited colour palette.

Very interesting abstraction! I wish the rails were perfectly vertical but that's probably beyond your control. Wonderful vision overall. 8
