Not sure what the distracting pattern is. Besides that the focus is soft, the lighting bad, and the angle isn't a good one. These shots are hard. Were you shooting at high ISO?

As a jazz fan, I'm curious to know who this is. It looks like maybe it was shot at an outdoor festival or something.
