This is a wonderful image and even better creativity. My only critique would be to shoot at f22 (or as high as you can go) as something like this I feel needs pinpoint sharpness on all of the links.

I hope this wins - should do.

After your PM, here is a critique.

People will look at this and say it's ugly, because, well it is an ugly plant. Nothing wrong with that, and you have done nothing wrong by shooting it. But with over 500 images just in this challenge to critique and comment on, that is the first thing people will say when they see it.

The same way that on baby shots people will say 'cute'.

As for the photo, it's technically OK, well exposed in most areas - is a little soft to be honest but that is only minimal.

Composition isn't great, just a plan near center. I think had you gotten closer to the messy parts (sap?) you may score better as this could hold some detail. Or you could have shot it from below to give it a little sens of drama.

great shot! So many lovely colors, but man posting size is too small. Will eb shot down for that and that only. u can use upto 640 in width. A shame as most will mark you down for that - i usualy would but the pho to is good which makes a change so I don't want to hurt it. 9
