The layered rock makes an awesome BG. The duotone brings out the best in this as well. The high iso probably added to the contrast which is a good thing in this case.

The darker foreground and bright BG adds a lot of depth in this shot. Have you tried experimenting with pulling saturation all the way down, then playing with the individual color sliders to see how it affects contrasts? It's like using strong color filters when shooting B&W film. It can help to bring out detail that would be blended into the BG by only reducing saturation.

The dark BG and backlighting work to accent the shapes and focus attention on the subject in this shot. Happy New Year to you too.

The strong colors, and the way they compliment each other make this shot nice. I am also impressed with depth of field for this shot.

You're a point & shoot wizard! Gotta love those little cameras.
You found the right thing for the challenge, processed it nicely, and kicked butt.
B&W is right for this scene, and the low angle getting the trees behind the bike give it an extra bit of texture that makes a big difference.

You had great evening light for this, and it looks like it was shot over water, the way the light looks like reflected light on the underside of the bird. It's a great shot of a curlew. I like the feather detail in this.

Welcome to DPC.
A little tilt is ok if you intended to do that. For most shooting, try to get the camera level. You can fix it some in processing later, but that will lose some of the frame.

This looks like Little Palm Island. We go by there on the way to go fishing from Little Torch Key. It's a pretty classy place.
