Road to Ruinby BAMartinComment: Wow Barbara, you really did a great job on this. I love the path leading to the ruins and the wonderful dynamic range (without being HDR). The smooth rocks contrast great with the rough desert landscape too...It reminds me of flipping through a book I have called "Ansel Adams and the Photographers of the American West"... |

saxby APComment: I'm one of your 15 7's..and I really like this shot. It didn't really connect emotionally with me as far as content goes, but compositionally and lighting it really made an impression on me. The exposure of those bricks and captureing all their contrast next to the blown out sky outside of the tunnel is just wonderful. |

week-6.jpgby LanndonKaneComment: I agree the high contrast is great and ominous! The processing is wild and I would love to see your steps... |

Afternoon Lightby AliciaComment: I like the boldness of this too...the extremes in lighting really work well. I would consider cleaning it up a bit if it were me though..specifically I would clone out the bright white "dots" created by her necklace, bottom right hair highlights, on her kneck and hair...I think it would make it even stronger! I also like the irregular border. |

Dragon's Breathby jdannelsComment: I'm getting tired of HDR because it doesn't seem to be used for a reason lately...but your shot is excellent. You have used the higher dynamic range to just accent the bark of the tree and texture of the foreground, without going overboard and the sky looks "photographic" rather than HDR cartoonlike. I would have considered burning that foreground log to make it very dark to kinda add a natural frame, but it is a lovely composition. |

Drive-In Moviesby HipychikComment: I like this shot, it has a lot of character! I'm not a big fan of the soft processing look..whatever it is.....but the composition is interesting and the "Americana" feel is great. |

Whitby Abbeyby SaraRComment: Very neat shot! I love the angle of the foreground grass and it definately helps the composition to get that little bit of texture into it. I'm glad you waited for the gulls too as they really really make this shot even more interesting. Well done! |

Dream of a Colourby inshaalaComment: Rich, I like the shot and agree with Becky about the rotation..I think it needed a little angular movement in the composition to set it apart (perhaps the dark stem coming in at an angle). I gave it a 6 during voting and would probably given it 1 mark higher without the HDR look. It feels like it has gone out of the realm of photography and into the realm of pencil drawing which might have been why it scored lower than expected. I would like to see the background burned some which might help the flower stand out more too. Anyway, overall I liked the shot and don't get too down on that 5.33 in a free study..that is not a bad score at all for a DPC free study. |
