i prefer this wider angle but i personally like the colouring in your cropped 'natures palette' .. the lighted windows with the less yellow look & the darker/blacker buildings .. but that's just my opinion ..
that sky is amazing with the clouds forming such wonderful patterns, shapes and colours ..
i see wot you're saying about the viewing area, but i like it .. !!
it would definitely make an excellent print .. :)
i just looked at your canvas version after saying all that and that's the colouring i prefer .. but i still like the wider angle .. :)

hey steve .. this turned out so well .. your application of the flood filter is perfect .. just perfect .. its one of my favourite filters and can add a wonderful new element to lots of different images .. from a dry rural scene to one with water just has to be an improvement .. lol ..!!!
my comment on this image, and its only my humble opinion, is that it seems a bit flat and uninteresting because of the colours ..
dont get me wrong .. i'm not making a derogatory comment on your photograph or processing .. it looks very much like the rural scenes close to where i live and especially when there hasnt been much rain .. i've never found yellowed grass that attractive .. the greener the better is my opinion & i think a lot of ppl would agree .. check out calendars and postcards and you'll find that dead grass doesnt feature that much so when you process for a magazine or something i'd be saying to try and appeal to the masses ..
the sky and the buildings are very similar in colour and tone which to my mind could be improved ..
i take photographs of the sky and clouds so that if i have something like this i would then add a more interesting sky .. any scene, especially something rural can change from ok to spectacular with a dramatic, beautiful or colourful sky ..
so my take on this would be to make it pop .. give the sky some oomph and give the barn more impact ..
if you want i'll put your original in photoshop and see wot i come up with .. just let me know .. :)

i love the change from an interesting photograph to one that's got punch .. the crop seems to give more drama to the girl .. now with the vibrancy of your colours its not only interesting but visually appealing as well .. it still creates questions .. like why is the girl hunched over like that .. has she received some very bad news, is she suffering physically, etc etc .. questions are a good thing .. it'll probably be a different scenario for each viewer depending on their own experiences ...:)
ahha ... after writing all that and looking at this photograph quite a lot i finally see that she seems to have a CAMERA .. !!! .. from a girl who looks to be in pain this has changed totally .. she's another photographer .. i like that she appears to be using the metal hoop thing as a frame or something for her own photograph ... great shot, great process .. an interesting five minutes i've spent looking at it and pondering .. :)
