Day 10by BradComment: Nice border! Monochrome puts attention on the texture, which this lily has plenty of. Sweet! |

Day Nineby Bear_MusicComment: Nice feeling of summer wind in this. I would assume it was a field. Fun, that it's just a corner of your yard. |

Day 9by BradComment: If star trails could be green...the big bang would look just like this! |

Day Lily by pixelpigComment: Originally posted by ursula: No idea what the mylar effect is (what is it?). The flower is quite beautiful, as is the picture. To my eyes, the inside border is overkill (I know, the jumping out, I think the flower would jumpt out just fine without the border). But that's just one person's opinion. |
The mylar effect is a piece of foamcore w/a sheet of mylar glued on. Sometimes I use aluminum foil. I position it to get an interesting reflection & then shoot the mylar. The scene is flattened on the reflecting surface & distorted according to the material used. The flower was shot against a piece of black foamcore.
I respect that a border is not liked by all. I usually add one when I want to keep the eye inside the frame. There wasn't much eye movement in this comp to begin with, so the border was my way of making that 'sharper.'

Day 9 - VERY Red Cannaby ephlnComment: Originally posted by ephln: Originally posted by pixelpig: Canna flowers are tough & red is a difficult color, so this is a pretty good capture with only a little bit of super-saturaition in the red. Would a polarizing filter or some sort of other filter that fits on the adapter ring help? |
What I do is use the greens nearby to set my exposure. Red reflects about as much light as black, so if you use the red petals to get your exposure it will not be right. If you have a variety of greens nearby (sun/shade) do an exposure w/one of each. I think you made a smart choice to get in the shade, too. I hope this helps! |

Day 8by skasubaComment: Dramatic, seems like one is reaching for the other, perhaps not w/good intentions. A story. |
