De Papermillby karmatComment: Good industrial image, and I like that you show the natural setting, too. You're probably right about the DNMC for the paper challenge as it would rely too much on the caption to make the connection.
Speaking of challenges, congrats on making the top 30 for dichotomy, but I think you should have been in the top 10 for that VERY creative image. I'll make sure I drop by and comment on it, too. :-) |

day 14 - scouts.jpgby rachelellenComment: Really nice personal photo. I can see the family resemblance. I'm curious as to why you blurred out some of the t-shirts. The troop number? Sometimes I think we worry too much about stuff like that. I mean, someone could maybe use it to identify your you or your town, but why would they? I don't mean to offend, quite the opposite -- just saying put your mind at ease about familial safety. Caution is good, but I think the news likes to scare us about dangers lurking out there to the point that they create fear where none is needed. OK, end of rant. :-)

You have a terrific sense of humor!
Great photo, especially with the personal connection. And thanks for the "bonus" photos, too.

That made me laugh!
Really nice composition, even though you had to lose some of the birds. I love the silhouettes. |

Day 16 - Boatsby BudComment: You've really composed this nicely. Good job on the crop. Nice colors, especially on the forward boat. I also like the "rings" of water showing signs of life in the water. |

Day 14 - Red & Yellowby BudComment: I can see why this got your attention -- terrific colors. I need to start getting up earlier to catch such magic light. |

Day-12.jpgby KenComment: I think you did a really good job with the HDR/tonemapping. To me it's quite subtle. I also respect your decision not to square crop, though there's some space to the left you might have cropped (though it would have left you with a very non-standard crop!). |

Day-14.jpgby KenComment: Beautiful time of day for such festive lights. Good job on the exposure. The roads a little drab, it would be nice to have an object of interest in the foreground with the booths, etc., as backdrop.
I'm jealous of your wide lens -- another reason to think about getting a DSLR. I agree, cropping is a shame in this case. You might also try resizing without keeping the correct aspect ratio, though you'd end up with a mighty distorted photo.
PS: I looked up "Elephant Ears" -- it's fried dough, right? I only knew the flora and fauna varieties. |

Day-15.jpgby KenComment: Looks like a beautiful summer day. Good exposure, you've got sand, sky, water (not to mention people) with nothing over or under exposed (I think the brightest spot is that guy's back).
Twenty years ago I went to a sand building contest in Hawaii -- I was knocked out by the professional looking entries there. |
