 Today was the sand building contest on the beach. It's the first year I went and thought there would be a lot more but there were only about a doze or so. But the people building them were having fun, which is what it's all about.

You can't tell from this picture because this is in the "roped off" section, but it's absolutely packed here, at the fair, and in the park. Fireworks tonight and the beach and park will be wall-to-wall people.

Looks like a beautiful summer day. Good exposure, you've got sand, sky, water (not to mention people) with nothing over or under exposed (I think the brightest spot is that guy's back).

Twenty years ago I went to a sand building contest in Hawaii -- I was knocked out by the professional looking entries there.

Yes. That guy will be red tonight. Great fun for the adults, the kids look like mine would when I was helping too much (or doing it for them instead). Fun picture... Now, I'm wanting to plan a beach trip to Padre Island.

excellent shot of life on the beach .. so busy and industrious ... fantastic colours .... we're in the middle of winter here in australia and i'm having trouble typing because i was outside for a while and my fingers have gone numb!!... would like a bit'v heat right about NOW !!! :)

what fun! you are so brave to take your camera to a sand castle party! i like the little girl in pink... is she tired? bored? finished with her castle? watching someone in the water?

You cant go wrong with building sandcastles at the beach!!!

Lovely shot that encapsulates the hustle and bustle. I do love the fact that on a couple of the castles the young children look totally disinterested while the adults are beavering away industriously

Many congratulations on not getting blow out on that chap's back...He needs to get out of his vest more often!!!!
