I think this is a really good portrait and am surprised it didn't score higher (not that 6.3 is anything to be ashamed of). I only gave out four "10s" this challenge and this was one of them. I like the glow of the white hair and the deep blacks of the background. Great texture revealed in the face. How neat that it's your dad.

I'm glad this at least made the top 50. I thought it would do better (I was one of your tens). Normally I would fault the fact that the animal is facing away from the camera, but the mane is so alive with light and movement, it's like smoke. Beautiful photo.

This was one of my "tens" -- sweet but not cloying. Interesting that it wasn't posed, because one of the reasons I loved it was the unselfconscious expression on the little girl's (Abbie's) face.
