Don't worry - consistently accurate manual focus takes a lot of practice. If you are sufficiently motivated to consider it a "quest", you'll get there soon enough. You could use a different focusing screen on your 40d that could make things a bit easier to see precise focus, if you want. That being said, sharp, sharp focus is frankly overrated and sometimes a bit unreal, given certain subjects. As redjulep says, we are in the world of overlay here! :)

Oh, forget the straight line (or not) of the body, look at those horns! Frames your background effectively. I like the white frame here, makes it look like an old print.

To be honest, the moment I laid eyes on this, I heard in my mind's "ear" the baying of a werewolf. :) Nice gothic edge to this shot, and effective blend of appropriate texture.
