Partial treeby JerseyGenieComment: Generally, horizontal or vertical lines aren't as interesting as diagonals (as others regularly remind me). I also think that brightening this a lot would help. I realize this was minimal editing, but for future efforts, try adding more light or lengthening the exposure time. |

asparagus, tomato, parsley, cabbage, oh myby JerseyGenieComment: Jeanne: I'm poking around your portfolio, so I'm taking another look at this. I still think it's a nice image, with terrific colors, but I'm trying to figure out why it didn't score higher.
I think it may be the composition. I keep wanting to crop out the upper right corner. I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it, but try this: bring the right edge in to where the tomato on the bottom of the frame touches the bottom on the right. That'll fill the bottom right corner with that terrific red. Then it'll be too tall, so move the bottom and top in until it looks good. |

Softly Anyaby banmornComment: Hi Robert. Well, I guess you got a clear indication of how DPC views photographs turned into illustrations. It's a pretty shot, anyway. I bet it'd do well in a digital art contest. :) |

Crosswalkby ryandComment: Hi. I'm responding to you request for critiques in your thread.
I agree with the other post-challenge commenters. Try cropping so the bottom just touches the triangular shadow. That will create two triangles - a light one coming from the right and the dark one coming from the left. It also pulls the eye into the frame because the bridge comes diving down from the top of the frame. I used similar framing for one of my subway shots:
This bridge has loads of potential. Go back and play around with many different angles. For example, try shooting where the vanishing point isn't centered horizontally:
Don't get discouraged by the score. "Average" on DPC usually means a good shot to anyone else. |
