Picture Perfect Afternoonby cowboy221977Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Pleasant scene, and glad that the one commenter was mistaken, thinking the frame of the railings had been added in pp. Though I have to admit it does look like it could have been added later.
Good use of thirds with the boardwalk leading us into the shot, but once again it needs a bit more pop in terms of colour (without going overboard of course) and something in terms of a subject on the boardwalk to break up the scene and create a focal point. Right in that bend of the boardwalk, someone coming or going would have been great and given more of a sense of purpose to the shot.
You're dfinitely improving in terms of technicals, Adam; now's the time to start getting the creative side going and give us a little more to see.

Old manby denisprayComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Very poignant image here, you did a great job of capturing this moment of what looks like some pain and a lot of old age. I can see from the angle you shot that cutting off his head for the challenge would have also meant cutting off a lot of his upper body, which we definitely need to see in order for the shot to work.
Despite the DNMC comments as his head is indeed in the shot, I gave you a 6 in voting because I do feel that sometimes the power of an image is more important than the challenge specs. I see that posty feels this way too, so cherish that red, it often means a lot more than many think.
Congrats on thinking outside of the box and risking a beating in terms of score for entering a shot that resonated with you, and others. Please keep up the good work.

Just Business.by romilComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Very nice use of b/w here with light and dark balancing off each other very well. Only one person here has a head, ahhh!!! The motion in the bg offsets the relative stillness of the transaction in front, where it looks like a ticket or voucher of some sort is being used to pay for the popcorn. Like the cash apron on the seller, it gives that carnival feel more than anything else.
Keep up the good work! :-)

Apart from the sign in the window, this could almost be a jagar, imho. Clearly the commenters *get* what's going on here and you're trying to stave off the creditors just a little bit longer.
A few minor compositional bugaboos...the sign is almost centred which gives a little bit of a heavy-handedness to the concept, which I don't think it needs. The arm across the man's midsection cuts things up a bit further, if he'd been more in the act of taping up the sign than barring the door afterwards I think it would have been much stronger. I do like the use of b/w though as it gives a timeless feel to this timeless dilemma.
Keep on shooting O Mighty Leader!

Corporate greedby SEGComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I like the thinking behind this shot, the faceless grey-scale, presumably interchangeable corporate entity grasping fistfuls of cash. Gave you a 7 in voting. Wish you had done more like a 'flash roll' where only the outermost bill is of a really high denomination and all the rest are 1s and 5s. Ah well...
A very straightforward shot, good lighting with no harsh shadows or glare. I think this same directness may have cost you in votes as it doesn't so much tell a story as simply cater to the beliefs of many: Greed + Big Corporations go hand-in-hand.
I can't help but wonder how this shot would have done if the legs had been spread apart. Here the impression is literally one of tight-assedness (to go with the tightfistedness?) But had the legs been spread a bit in literally more of a cocky, self-assured stance...who knows?
Overall good work and an impactful image. Keep shooting and entering!

Young Deer Playingby Judith PolakoffComment: I got a similar shot awhile back, I'd say it's more like one young deer asserting dominance over another young deer...still a nice shot though! |

swankyby posthumousComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
A very voyeurish shot, I feel like I'm hiding and watching from the bushes to the right. Good catch just as the one foot is solidly planted and the other in mid-air. The shape of her body is echoed somewhat in the path. Does she know you're there? Is she storming off in a huff or is she deliberatly putting some swank into her walk just to show you what you're missing? So many questions, so little time before she vanishes from view.

as we walkby lobrinComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Was just wondering if one of your images would pop up...and eh wala... :-)
Love the use of 'we' in the title, as though your person does indeed consider their shadow to be a separate being and not just a shade of themselves. Nice light/shadow interplay, as already mentioned by some, and great dof, I feel like I'm there watching them strut by. Wondered if the arcing line on the ground might create too much of a distraction but seeing you got nothing less than a 4, guess not. However, and maybe just because I've become spoiled by your 3/4 overhead shots, this shot lacks the dynamism you've discovered recently.
Still, nice work, nothing to complain about. You know you're getting great shots and improving, so just keep on shooting.
