Nice portrait of a captain! I really thinkt he compositon works well here. i'm not bothered by the crop of the hands and I like the lines of the sails leading you to the captain. Great bokeh and contrast along with a confindent pose bring this all together. I second that this would have been a nice portrait for the enviromental portrait challenge.

Very emotive shot. It's a reminder of the ever present switch of roles by parents and children later in life. I like the tone but feel that it seems to soften the mood of the shot and it's emotion, an almost warming effect decreasing the emotive response. I feel that this would benifit from straight b&w conversion, though it still is nice and powerful image with undertones of a wide array of emotions.

Great texture and detail for a portrait, a great subject for sure. I do find the b&w version a bit darker and would like to see his face a bit lighter and maybe burn the bright spot down a tid bit. I think the focus and DOF are spot on though and a nicely done portrait, well done.
