Very nice. Love the leading lines and the angular shadows/light cast on the far wall.

This is an intriguing shot and you should be very pleased with its appeal to the voters. I find the sense of scale as well as the elevated camera angle to provide a great deal of energy to the pic. The light reflected on the rough walls is perfect as well. NOt sure about the title, but the image is so excellent that it transends the title. And now i'm just being picky. Don't change a thing!

HI from the Critique Club

As this challenge was pretty wide open subject wise, I'll direct my comments to the technical aspects of the photo in the challenge context.

LIghting: AS light is what gives dimension to a subject, it is the lack of directional lighting which makes it hard to yeild a contrast image. This looks as if it was taken with pretty strong daylight so the potential for contrast was present.

Unfortunately the crop is so tight to the wheel that it is hard to see the play of light against dark. This subject needs some context outside of the title to tie it to the 'farm' in a viewers mind. POssibly a wider angle treatment would have worked well.

Your focus seems a little soft but that could be the lack of Unsharp Masking during your processing sequence. I'm not familiar with your lens but the softness could also be characteristic of the lens. YOur choice of f8 does give good depth of field, just sharpness lacking a little. PM me if i can help with Unsharp Masking technique(at least if you use photoshop).

Subject matter is the biggest drawback on this photo. A wheel is just a wheel and without some other contextual elements it is hard to generate interest. Now that the challenge is over, take a look at some of the top 20 entries to see what the "voter's interpretation" of Hich Contrast was. I think they mostly had it right. Look for the play of dark against light when you want high contrast.

So..., i'm not an expert, just wanting to offer a couple of things to think about. PM me if you have any questions.

Very spectacular color. Love the dark cloud contrasted with the color. Makes a nice diagonal path for the viewer accross the frame.
