Forkby RikkiComment: I really liked the style of this photo. I'm surprised it ranked this low. |

The composition of the layout and the color/BW are both great.
Could you tell me how did you do the partial desaturation and the this frame?
Thanks in advance,

In photoshop I desaturated the image using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. I then created a mask on the Hue/Saturation layer. Using a soft brush (hardness=0) on the mask I brought the color back by just brushing over the bee and flower areas.
I also used several level/curves layers to adjust the contrast and selective color to tweak the color a bit. I hope that answers your question. If not let me know. Oh and thanks for the comments. Message edited by author 2005-12-13 02:08:39. |

Upby NordlysComment: You probably found the most compelling crop in this shot. Good work. |

Flag Artby woodseyComment: jmsetzler, I agree in the sense that everyone is trying to learn and trying to duplicate a technique is part of the learning process but part of the learning process is also finding your own voice and style. I think you need to combine the two. That didn't happen here. I think if a unique twist was done to the shot it would have done better since it would be raising the bar so to speak, which in turn might spur more interest into the techique itself. Instead it offered nothing new and didn't advance the style/subject forward. Just my .02 cents. Message edited by author 2005-12-08 16:40:18. |

Contemplationby gurlwithapenComment: I figured this wouldn't rank that high and the typical ho hum shots of dolled up models would do better. I liked the photo. One thing I forgot to add in my comment was regarding the eyes. I think they needed to be more in focus (mainly the left eye) and as Jutilda mentioned some sort of reflection in the left eye so as to change the overall focus to the top third of the photo rather than the left third where my eye currently goes to first.
