The Growing Yearsby njsabsComment: I'm not a big fan of texture. Too often it seems to be done for the sake of just having texture, or to distract from a flaw in the image.
I really like this one. It gives an ethereal quality to the imatge that would be missing if it were not there. In this case, 1+1=10. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. |

grateby CoryComment: The last time I saw something that looked like this it was 40 years ago, and there was a war in progress. |

U n d o n e by phloverComment: What a wonderful image. Some here say the quality of work here has gone down. Obviously they spoke too soon, and had not yet seen this image. You chose well for this entry. It is my favorite of the two choices as well. The choice of tones for this image really added to the effect. Congratulations on a very well deserved first blue. I imagine we will be seeing many more from you. |

The Reconstructed Pear by VitaminBComment: Very nicely done. I especially like the feel the pins add to the image. I could easily see this image as an art print, as it is an image that one would not tire of seeing. Would love to see this on a gallery wall as a large art print. This is where the impact would be felt. Congrats on a very well deserved ribbon. |

Broken sphereby herfotomanComment: Yes, you probably would have done much better in the weathered challenge with this. I think many voters did not see the spiral shell as a form of a sphere. Sometimes the voters are much too literal. The image does appear a little soft, as if the focus was not quite right, or it was magnified during cropping. I do like your use of negative space here. Perhaps a little more contrast on the lighting so the effect of the shell dissolving into the blackness would be even stronger. |
