Very cool! It seems to be just a bit over sharpened. I love the idea though.

Greetings from the Critique Club };-)

Initial thoughts
Vibrant yellow, meets the challenge

Composition/ Content
I love the colors of the shot, the yellow is awesome. I feel as if it may have been cropped just a little too close. I would like to see more room above the Trumpet keys and maybe just a touch more of the trumpet.

Background
I can't tell what the blue and yellow object are in the background but they do distract slightly from the focal point.

Camera Work - Technical
Focus seems good and contrast is excellent. I like the lighting as it adds to the curves and such of the trumpet and of course lit up the yellow color perfectly.

Digital Processing - Technical
Seems good, nice and sharp. A dark border may have made it stand out even more.

Fits The Challenge
Definitely fits the challenge well.

My Opinion On The Photo
I originally scored this shot a six, bordering on a seven which was slightly better than your average score. It is one of your highest scores and deservedly so. I think that it meets the challenge well and caught the voters eye with that great color. Good job, and keep up the good work.

I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

Initial thoughts
A real "Eye Catcher", meets the challenge, seems a bit over saturated

Composition/ Content
The thing I like the best about the shot is the angle of the eye. So many folks shoot it straight on and that makes this shot stand out. Cropping seems good as well.

Camera Work - Technical
Focus seems a little soft. It is hard to tell if that was straigh from the camera or because of post processing, but for a macro like this it is all important. The glare in the eye is little overpowering. It appears that you had too many light sources for this. When shooting something that you know is going to reflect it is usually better to limit yourself to one light source.

Digital Processing - Technical
I think if you could have limited the yellow color to the iris of the eye you would have been OK here but when the yellow overflowed to the skin as well it may have gone over the boundary of what is natural. It certainly gives it color but adds to the graininess and is a little disturbing. It appears from your comment that you like it that way and that is most important though. Don't let anyone tell you different!!

Fits The Challenge
Definitely fits the challenge well.

My Opinion On The Photo
I originally scored this shot a five as did most of the voters. I think that it meets the challenge and was certainly interesting but may have pushed the envelope for the post processing. Good job, and keep up the good work.

Initial thoughts
Just my luck to critique your shot two weeks in a row! I wonder what it is, meets the challenge, seems a bit over sharpened.

Composition/ Content
I looked at this quite a few times and never really figured out what I was looking at until I read your notes. I think that this certainly has "Rhythm" but somehow missed the boat a bit. I like the contrast and the lighting but I think the refelecitons in the heads of the nails take away from the overall shot even as an abstract.

Camera Work - Technical
The thing I like best about the shot is the way you sank some of the nails to make a valley of shadow. It works well the way it runs from the top left corner but it does take away some of the focus in the shadows.

Digital Processing - Technical
I can't tell whether this is a bit over sharpened or whether it is just the glare from the lights in the nail heads. Either way it has a rather grainy feel to it. I'm not sure if that was the intention but I think it is a little distracting.

Fits The Challenge
Fits the challenge well.

My Opinion On The Photo
I think you took a shot of a pretty tough subject. It has a rhythmic feel to it but there are too many other things going on in the shot to really impart that. Good shot but perhaps not one of your best that we've come to expect!

I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

This would be such an awesome photo with a better background. The reel in the back is too centered and too busy, it really takes away from the fly.

Good shot and the colors are right on. I think it is just a little too centered though. Perhaps if you cropped it a little tighter on the bottom.

This is great. How on earth did you get that much focus on the branches in the square?
