boxed inby downtherabbitholeComment: Maybe not what voters were looking for in this challenge, but as a standalone photograph, particularly with your focus on "cropping not propping", I think this is a very good shot. I like the grays, the lines, and the patterns formed. It's well lit, and your model is both attractive and portrays an inquisitive nature, which fits this well. Very well composed and presented - I think it would work well in your project. |

Triad by banmornComment: I had this pegged as yours - it never ceases to amaze me how well you can control the light on shots like this. Amazing! And it's not the camera.... :-) |

White Sunby noranekoComment: This was one of my favorites from the challenge, Catherine - you did a fine job! The petals, in my opinion, are perfectly lit for this, and yes, I do like that little lit bit on the stem. I'm actually surprised this didn't score higher than it did. Good choice for the background, and I do like being able to see some of the texture. |

Dichotomyby walrus451Comment: I like the composition. If it were me (and you're not, since you don't appear to be a petite middle aged woman), I might try it a bit softer, though the hard edge to it does give it a certain feel. |

Swinging Loveby tcyahathComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
This made me laugh! Very good timing to catch them "in the act" and good crisp focus. A nice simple presentation (which is good here at DPC). You'll get better scores if you use the full size allowed for challenges - the picture can be 640 pixels on the longest side - horizontally in this case. There's a very good tutorial you can read to help you with resizing pictures for challenge submissions: resizing for DPC challenges.
Keep shooting and feel free to PM me if you have any questions! |

Would Love . . . Some Fansby PatsfanComment: Hi Stevie - Greetings from the Critique Club!
First of all, I think you did a great job capturing the essence of the still rings with this shot. You captured the athlete in a very difficult pose which really shows his strength and form (which is very good!). It also shows his determination. It's a very good composition with your subject well framed. The lighting is never the best in the places where these guys compete, but I think you did a good job with what you had to work with, and the picture is quite clean for shooting at an ISO of 1600!
I think maybe it was a bit of a stretch for the challenge, but your title was very appropriate - it IS too bad not many people show up to watch - these guys work hard!
I checked your portfolio and I think you're doing very well! I really like the shot you did for the Music challenge - that was a unique approach. Keep shooting and sharing these shots with us! |
