Seems very silly to me to have flowers on the breakfast plate, but it does add a bit to look at in the photo. I think this looks very good. I like the presentation, and focus and clarity are really good as well. we get some good detail in the inside of that muffin. I also like how you added some extra fruit on the plate, but that flower just seems strange to me. ~Heather~

Looking through the entries, I found 2 that stood out to be contenders in the top 3 so far. This is one of them. I think the lighting is good. The only spot I see that could have been a tad better, is right at the bottom near the middle. It gets a little bright right there. Your focus and clarity are really good, and I like the presentation of the food very well. There is a poster similar to this in one of our pizzarias and I have always liked it. Good luck in the challenge. ~Heather~

Macaroni & Cheese

Mac and cheese and tomatoes?? That just looks discusting. As for the photo, it seems that the DOF is a bit shallow. TOO shallow. The only part that really stands out to me as being at all in focus is the edge of the tomato. Also, the shot seems grainy. Especially in the blue area. It bothers me that the large area of mac and cheese in the bottom right is badly out of focus. I would prefer this part to be in focus. ~Heather~

I don't like this at all. Definatly not my cup of tea so to speak. If you hadn't specified what this was, I would not have even guessed it. Secondly, since I now know it's an onion, I wouldn't think it would have these silly colors in it. It might appeal to some, but not to me. Sorry. Also, whatever effect you used, really made it grainy and aweful in the background part in the upper right.

This looks really discusting, but it's a nice photo. I like the dramatic angle. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the bowl in the background. The dark thing in the bowl creates a slight distraction from the subject. Your focus and DOF are really good. Unfortunately we get a lot of great detail in the food. lol. Not really my kind of food, but like I said. Good shot. ~Heather~

First thing I notice here is thre really harsh shadow to the right of the bowl. This is really distracting to the photo as a whole. The next thing I notice is that your subject is off center enough to make this a non centered shot, but not quite off center enough to give it any dramatic angle or anything. It looks like a sloppy job lining up the shot. The food looks good, although the crispest focus seems to be in the bottom left corner on the table cloth. The eggs seem a bit soft, but look at the detail in the bottom left corner. I wish that kind of detail and focus were on the eggs. ~Heather~

Pod Buddies

What's the recipe for making a pea pod? I guess this could be the 'before' of some great dish found in a cookbook. The photo is nice. Because the outter edge of the pod is not crisp focus, and the light glares on the peas are soft, it makes the shot look like it's a bit out of focus, even if it's not really all out of focus. The shallow DOF is not really needed here. I would have prefered the entire thing to be in focus. That would have worked better for me. I like how it's centered, and I like the dark background. Overall, nice. ~Heather~

Can't wait to see your recipe on this one. I realize that it says in the description before, during or AFTER, but I think they were refering to the actual food item, because they did say to add your recipe to the description section of the photo. Anyway, doesn't really fit the challenge in my opinion. The photo itself seem grainy and dark, and not really making me jump out of my seat with excitememt. The colors seem really strange, and that could be because of the odd lighting. Not really my cup of tea. ~Heather~

I really nice photo. Great DOF. I really like how the background is blurred. Nothing distracting there. I'm wondering if a little more lighting on the mushrooms might have benefitted this shot a bit. This side of the mushrooms seems kind of dark, whereas the background looks quite bright. Almost like you were shooting with the sun in front of you. Still a very nice photo though. ~Heather~

I guess I don't see any maple syrup. I thought maple syrup was brown, and strawberry syrup was red. Looks to me like blueberries, icecream, cookies, and strawberry syrup. Your DOF is pretty good. I like how the placemat in the background is blurred. I wish the front section of the placemat were blurred as well, as it is kind of a distraction. The food it's self looks kind of discusting. I'm not really big on sweets, but I think the setup is ok. ~Heather~
