| 08/16/2002 11:17:00 PM | Coming Up Rosesby daysezComment: You know, at first, the rose looked like it was cut and pasted onto the background. The strange outline on the top of the bud made me think this. However, As I was trying to shoot a photo for the pencil challenge, I came upon the same strange black outline in one of my photos that I had taken too close to the computer screen. I definately get the newness in the photo and it is a beautiful rose. Looks like you played with the colors a bit. The red looks unnaturally too red, however, the same thing creating the mystery black outline may be causing the redness to also be off. I like the angle and closeness of the rose and I like how it's lit and the background is far off. Nice photo, good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/16/2002 01:21:00 PM | Opening Soonby syamjonimiComment: this is really neat. I like how it come into the photo, but doesn't leave. I'm thinking I see that rule of thirds applied here. (I'm fairly new to that concept, so I've been looking for what I think applies to the RO3's) This is very visually appealing. I asked my mother (who knows a lot about flowers than me) and she said that she thought it was a hibiscus? which only opens in the day time. That even adds another dimention of the something new concept. Great shot and good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/16/2002 12:51:00 PM | $uns for $aleby boyte1Comment: This looks like a ride at a fair or carnival. Not real sure that they LOOK like they are for sale, but rather just decoration. That, however, is just an observation, an opinion. It will not affect my rating of this photo. I love the angle this was shot at. Also, I like how the entire photo seems to be in great focus. I have to admire this due to the fact that I only have auto-focus and have to do what my camera tells me to do. lol. Lighting is great. Wish there was less unidentified stuff in the background, but that's not your fault. I have to wonder how these were made. Pretty cool. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 05:41:00 PM | new hibiscus at sunriseby jimsappComment: It wasn't until recently that my mother explained to me that hibiscus only open in the day time. I think that's neat. this is a nice shot with the black background and the actual flower being the only thing in sharp focus. lighting is great. not much color though. not your fault, but it's a little too green for me to hang on my wall in the house. doesn't mean it's not a good photo though. definately depicts something new. good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 05:52:00 PM | Cuttin' Teeth..Wantin' Whopperby axalotComment: New baby, new teeth. This one looks like she could tear a whopper apart even without the teeth. lol. my son was the same way. over 10lbs when he was born and still hasn't slowed down a bit now that he's 2. The lighting is good. no distracting shadows, however, the light glare on her face is ALMOST getting too bright. you caught the teeth great. nice job and good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 12:19:00 AM | newbieby aelithComment: This photo looks like the rule of thirds was applied. I'm not quite sure it works here, but since i'm not a "rule of thirds" expert, I'll just set that aside. I know. I think I'd like to see a wider view of this. If you centered the tomato, then you would lose the really cool fuzzy stem to the left, so that wouldn't be good. I like the stem. However, if you backed up the shot a bit, you could accomplish both, the centering of the tomato and still keep the fuzzy stem. The lighting is a bit dark toward the top of the tomato, if only you could tell the sun to move a bit. lol. I have heard of a trick to help keep the reflection low on shiny objects. hold a thin cloth or thin paper between the subject and the light source. still allows for light, but makes it a little more mellow. Different colored cloths also make for some pretty cool color shading too. Anyway, Great depiction of something new. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/16/2002 10:58:00 PM | New Catsby gigageekComment: The little spots blend in and it looks like a 2 headed cat. lol. I know it's not, but you can't tell where one cat ends and the other begins. They are really really orange. Was that the natural color or did you play with the colors a little? The background looks fake and a little washed out. I can definately see the newness in the photo. You don't get to see this kind of baby cat often. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/17/2002 11:40:00 AM | Capacitors In Bloomby jkiolbasaComment: Nice close up, great lighting. I like the arangement of these "capacitors", but I'm not sure what they are. I know they are related to computers in some way, but I would personally have no way of telling if they are new or not, so I'm going on your word here. Definately original and I like the contrast between the subjects and the background. Nice photo. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/12/2002 01:41:00 AM | New Shoesby floydComment: LOL! I think most of us can relate! Great idea. Lighting is good, however the little light sneaking through the curtain in the back, to the right of her knee is a little distracting, it doesn't take from the purpose of the photo though. Congrats and good luck. |
| 08/18/2002 12:19:00 PM | A New Lily for a New Dayby jimmspComment: This is one of my favorite new flower photos this week. I love the balence of colors with the yellow and red, to the green in the background. I wonder if you did the exact shame shot and put a magnitying glass over your lens, if it would make it a bit more crisp. Sometimes with digital cameras, a bit is lost when you use zooms, the mag. glass just helps to replace that. Your lighting is supurb, couldn't have been better. I like the variety of shades of green in the background. Very nice shot. Good luck with the challenge. |
