I love red for this; red is the natural colour of darkness, the one colour that doesn't kill your night vision. 7

Well, you're not likely to be Robert Lowell. Robert Ward, perhaps? Whatever, this is a clever idea, and worthy of the quotation in a witty and metaphoric kind of way. Can't decide if the insects add or diminish, so it's probably add. 8

Nice picture; great facial expression vis-a-vis the challenge. Hard to believe it as a serious game of chess, though ... the black king is in a preposterously advanced position for a game with so many pieces still in play. Maybe he plays like Elway did?

A deceptively casual image. Yet a moment's study reveals that it's actually an elegant and harmonious composition that succeeds on more than one level; as an interesting & intriguing photograph of its subject; as a pleasing graphic image; and as a very good entry in this challenge. My only 10.

Terrific framing of this subject, especially with the loose lock of hair echoing the "behind bars" theme established by the frame.

My favourite. This detail shot tells me more about the truck and its owner than would a photograph of the whole thing. That's because it's a composition sympathetic to the particular character of the subject, and it's also expertly executed.

A very good idea executed with skill and restraint. The frame and the subject are a harmonious pair, and just enough of each is used to achieve maximum effect.
