Cut Stone

This is very good; it does somehow convey effectively the muffled feel of heavy, cold, cut stone, and it does so not by showing us a close-up of the surface texture (which wouldn't work), but rather by showing us the mood created by the light ... emotional texture. It's a photograph that rewards a minute's close study. At first the highlights seem overblown, but they're not; just enough detail is there, as it is in the deep shadows on the floor. A finely judged exposure. 9

There's several things I like about this. It's a very interesting composition. You've captured the physical texture well, but you have also managed to suggest both the material (brass) and, somehow, the shimmering sound; another two dimensions of "texture"! I think it's a terrific image, and I hope its qualities are not underestimated in the voting. 8

This is a very appealing composition; balanced asymmetry! The shadow of the log end is especially good. And the image showcases the several textures effectively. Also a finely judged exposure, given the tonal range you've managed to capture. Plus it's B&W ... Bravo! 8

Textures in the Sky - Noctilucent clouds

Lovely photograph and lovely new (for me) word; "noctilucent" .. presumably it means shining or glowing at night. The effect is of a water surface, viewed from below. Beautiful, and a thoroughly legitimate texture study. 7
