Kissed by a Roseby RiderGalComment: CC
dang, now i cant get this song out of my head! ;)
the funny part about this photo is, that to me, the image comes across as much darker and dreamier than I imagine Seal intended! who knows tho--it is interesting to see how different people interpret music.
this photo has a very surreal look--the contrast is wonderful--i love the lighting and the choice of black background. the perfect clarity of the rose in the center contrasts so strikingly with the slightly blurry lips in the corner with the slightly blurry rose in the foreground---making me feel like i am seeing some warped scene right out of twin peaks or some such. looking at it from such an artsy way--like it is an image straight from a bizarre dream--makes me realize that i can recommend nothing to change this photo--i think it is wonderful! i can imagine that it will be one that has to appeal to the viewer tho--and it is my experience that a lot of people just dont get david lynch! ;) hehehe!
you have a great eye--keep up the good work! |

I thought about doing a shot like this! :)
the composition is ok here--i like the fact that the person is in the right of the frame with his bags taking up the left side--i dont know if i really like his head being cut off--but i would have to see a shot with the head in to know for sure! i probably would have cropped out the chair leg on the left tho, it kind of takes away from the sense of emptiness that the title and photo seem to portray. technically, it seems fine, although the small size makes it hard to tell--i see you took this shot with an iso of 500? that seems huge! but my camera doesnt even go that high so what do i know! :) |

Around the Bendby svitalComment: CC
i grew up in the mountains of NC, and this shot really reminds me of home! I love the composition and the fact that you captured the shadows of the trees in the background--even though i find myself wanting to see more of them! the snow on the ground is also a nice touch. i also love the sunlight reflecting off of the water. technically, the photo seems nice, no complaints here! the only thing i might have done differently is maybe try shooting a little higher up to get more of the tree shadows to give more depth to the picture, since the end of the stream is almost hidden by the weeds on the bank. otherwise, nice shot! this is a nice shot--the colors in this photograph are pretty and the red bag is a nice touch! but from first glance, i am left wondering where he is going! i feel that a different composition might have helped this photograph even more. Maybe taken a little more to the left to show the the road going off into the distance? this also could have kept him being so centered in the frame--i think having him centered like this makes him almost get lost in the shot.
technically you have a very nice shot--great clarity and the DOF is very good as well. i wonder tho--if you were to leave the composition as is--if you pulled the DOF in a little tighter to blur the landscape in front of him from the fence back--it might make him stand out more as well. just a thought! all in all, nice work! :) |

Busy Merry-Go-Roundby vestanpanceComment: i really like the colors in this photo---the blues and oranges work well together. overall this photo has a very surreal quality to it--probably a blend of the colors and motion. reminds me of a scene from a david lynch movie, which is cool. technically, it is fine--i have nothing to offer by way of opinion here! compositionally tho, i probably would have cropped more off the top--perhaps having the top yellow line of the merry go round almost at the top of the frame to get the sky out of the shot. nice work! |

Up in the Cloudsby jab119Comment: this has the makings of a good photo--i like the composition of the sky--the way the clouds bump up against the sun and then thin out at the top of the frame. reminds me of the sort of sky you see from an airplane. i just can't decide if i like the structure in the left hand corner--normally i would think it worked well for framing, but i really dont know if a sky shot needs any external framing--perhaps the position of the clouds would have worked just fine. the colors are nice, if a little too muted for my taste. the photo has a sort of ethereal quality to it which is nice. i think that if this was my picture--i would take the original, throw it in PS--crop out just the structure on left and bottom--fix the glare at the top and boost the levels a tad to make the colors stand out just a little more. not a whole lot of work for a really nice picture! good work. |

Happy Holidays!by timj351Comment: CC
this reminds me of the lite-brite kits i used to play with as a kid! vivid lights on a dark background--but with probably a little more artistic detail than i would have done! :)
technically a very well done shot. the clarity and color of the lights are outstanding.
composition is cool-- but--i keep thinking i may have pulled the shot in a little tighter to have each of the tree trunks in the foreground framing either side of the shot--giving it more balance--and which would make the blue circle things seem to march straight down the sidewalk--taking the viewer's eye down the path to the rest of the lights in the background.
all in all a very well exectuted shot--i wish i had attempted more of these this season! nice job. |
