There are two main reasons for wearing a mask in Japan. One is not to pass on or contract a cold or flu; the other is to screen out pollen during the wearer's allergy season. (People are allergic to different pollen which come out at different times of the year. However, the main one is cypress pollen, but there are also various grasses.)

Very nice shot. If that dragonfly is anything like the similar-looking blue dragonflies here in Japan, you've done a very good job at capturing it (they invariably fly away if you approach them here...).
