Shallow enough?by opticoComment: shallow, yes? interesting? maybe...
not much here to hold my attention. maybe with gradient lighting that spread a range of colors across the subject? |

Kid-made Trufflesby shadeeuaComment: this could be a great subject, but the lighting makes it more of a snapshot than a photograph. the flash takes away all the warmth and textures that would make the subject appealling. if you don't have a tripod, find something to rest your camera on, and go back and reshoot this using different types of lighting to see if you can come up with something that grabs and keeps the viewer's attention. |

Whoops, missed the chimney!by LalliSigComment: great shot, expecially on all the technicals. even though i'd like a little more context to the background (as opposed to this perfect blur), i'm sure this will finish very high. |

BOY ON BOAT.by CONRADComment: nice portrait shot. as a challenge entry, though, you could have done much better, especially with that lens. all it would have taken would have been another person behind them. this is not perfect, but it will give you an idea as to what i'm talking about:

Sisters, on the rocks, at the beachby boomeraklComment: if this had really been 'shallow dof', one of the sisters would have been oof...
nice expressions, but the shadows are too strong, and not really being used for anything. |

TICONDEROGAby lectrolComment: great idea, but the background was too close. would have looked better with a white background, and maybe a little sidelighting to take the edge off the flash-induced shadows. |

Saturday Mornby iamkmaniamComment: you have the right idea, but the execution would have been stronger if the focus had been on the whole foot and if the bottom of the toes hadn't been cropped out. |

The Timeoutby rlgphotoComment: technically meets the challenge, but you wasted a great story-telling opportunity. a broken glass, split milk, anything could have made this interesting. even tipping the chair over. you have the equipment to make good photos, but you really need to push yourself a bit harder. it's not just about dpc. without the challenge, without the title, would this image stand on its own? a strong image is going to give the viewer moment to pause. |
