thanks for the input but this is a snapshot, notice the title... "kid made" ... thats why they look like turd and the lighting is all i had at work, and we work too fast for these to sit out, so i could get a good shot, i just took it as a snapshot to remember what we made, and figured i had nothing that id shot for this so id just enter it in, but thanks for your input

this could be a great subject, but the lighting makes it more of a snapshot than a photograph. the flash takes away all the warmth and textures that would make the subject appealling. if you don't have a tripod, find something to rest your camera on, and go back and reshoot this using different types of lighting to see if you can come up with something that grabs and keeps the viewer's attention.

This just looks very unappealing. The lighting is very flat (almost looks like flash) and the candy just looks sad and kind of turd-like. I'm sorry to be so blunt but that was my first reaction when I saw this. Food shots are really difficult. It takes a certain kind of lighting and set design expertise (I certainly don't claim to have any) to make it look appealing on camera. Setting the candy (or cookies?) up on an attractive dish would be a start. Maybe in nice little foil cups? The aluminum foil looks pretty haphazard and adds quite a bit of glare.

this image sufferes from distracting staging IMO...in need of rearangment

Sorry, but the background is just too distracting here.
