Very good job on the exposure here. Good framing. Interesting, your border is one which would often seem very distracting, but it ties in with the colors and bright neon lights in the scene, and seems to actually work nicely. Good job.

This is an interesting idea. I think it could have some potential, but the execution in this case seems to really be wanting more. The lighting here is not working. The top roots are overly bright, and the rest of the area is very flat. Did you use flash? Maybe using an external light, like even work lights, or something like that. This would give more control, and ability to get even lighting and a good exposure. It might help get better focus also. You might want to try a little tweaking in post processing also. Even just some minor levels or curves adjustments, just to try and get a little more depth and contrast, a more dynamic tonal range throughout the shot. The composition could be a little stronger. That's just a matter of learning and studying compositional techniques, and applying them to your photos.

This is an interesting shot. I like the silhouette thing going on. I'm thinking that perhaps compositionally, the image could maybe have a greater impact if some of the negative space at bottom were cropped out. I think it could geve the balance more weight, and a less 'centered' feel.

Well, maybe not a ribbon winner, but, IMO, should of scored better than that. I thought it to be a good, creative take on the challenge theme, and not that far out of the box to understand. Oh well, darned speed voters :-)

Hey Gayle,
IMO, this is a definite improvement over the original. It for sure is straighter (if you look at the centerline on the ceiling, now it is right on the 'y' in 'My Home' on the menu bar, and in the original it is between the 'm' and 'y'), doesn't seem like a lot, but it is noticeable :-) I much prefer it brightened up, although I can see what Marigold is saying about the lighting, and agree to some extent. I think either backing off a touch from here, or a little tweaking of levels or curves, like a little boost to mid-tone contrast could actually accentuate that nice natural light. (I sent you a pm about this). I do like it better brighter, like this version. I think this version or close to it, (brighter and no tilt) could of easily bumped your score up close to or over a 6) Of course, this is all just my opinion, and really all comes down to personal taste :-)

Wow. This is very, very cool. I've looked for several minutes, and I just don't know what else to say other than, this is very, very cool. This makes me think J.J. Beguin, and that my friend, is a HUGE compliment from me.

It breaks a big 'rule', with the people cut off, but it works perfect that way. The light is just to die for in the shot. Texture, mood, just wow. The dof works great. It just all comes together, and is just an incredible image. It is just undescribable how this image has grabbed me by my very soul. Going into my favs, and thank-you, thank-you for such an amazing photograph.

A nice refreshing approach to the challenge. Good job on the exposure, some of the brighter areas seem to just be on the verge of blowing out, but not bad at all. It's definitely a good choice of subject, IMO. I'm wondering though, if maybe it were not shot so 'straight on', from a little off to the side, more of an angle type thing, it could perhaps be a little more dynamic, maybe a little stronger impact, compositionally? Nice job though.
