How sweetly these venerable books slip into this becoming still life. The vase of flowers nicely contrasts with the tattered volumes, visually and metaphorically. That touch of red is lovely, and perhaps self-referential. Personally, the watch seems unnecessary, but you won't see me entering still lifes anywhere close to these beauties, so what do I know?
