band brandby herfotomanComment: Mysterious, haunting image. I like how the cloth, or whatever it is, obscures the features. Nice and tight, daring the viewer to unravel its secrets. Echoes of the Shroud of Turin. Strong image. |

eye for an eye, tooth for a toothby jmritzComment: Very interesting flat-toned image, even Edward Hopperish. Good composition. The portrait aspect is beautifully minimal. The bouquet or umbrella emanating from her head certainly adds a quirky note, but I frankly believe the image is so strong that it is not needed and detracts more than it adds, but that's the way it was and I respect that and the photographer's vision. Fine image. |

Maybe, Maybe Not.by PennyStreetComment: An offhand glance as he turns to the camera while appearing turned inward. It seems like a moment on a difficult trek. The scratchiness adds to the documentary feel and the sense that this isn't a recent instance. Could be 1936. He seems reluctant to come forward out of the brilliant background. Affecting image. |

Ianby PaulFrocchiComment: The raindrops on glass make an interesting foreground, and even create a sort of aura around his head. They break up his direct gaze, bringing out an air of reflection. I like the composition, a fine example of the rule of thirds, and all that dark area on the right. A fine portrait elevated by playful creativity. |

Live Your Life and Forget Your Ageby grahamgatorComment: Nice reflective portrait, casual and comfortable. I like the softer black against the deeper black. While the dungarees add a down to earth touch, as a tonal area it's kind of looming. An overall gentle quality pervades the image, which is appealing. |

Sphingidaeby odinndagurComment: I like the lighting and composition choices here. Lots of shadow, a flare of light against which the subject is positioned. I don't know if the expression is one of boredom, rumination or fit of pique, which holds one attention. A strong image. |

It's Casualby LydiaComment: I like this man's solidity and clear gaze. His dark garb against the neutral background draws attention to his face, which is nicely lit and well-placed in a balanced composition. Good image. |

Free hugby GeorgesBogaertComment: A nice, kind, giving face that needs no visual accoutrements to elevate it. The field of bokeh does a fine job. It's this simple approach that I find so appealing, but it can only come off on the basis of a strong subject, as it does here. Fine image. |

Still a flower child? by PenelopeKComment: Good portrait of a man who seems to have spent some time standing against the wind - in a character-building way. Soft, ruminative eyes (in a deep thinking way, not in a chewing the cud way). While I like the patterns of the foliage background, it also is somewhat confusing. There's a kind of chameleon effect that I like, and gives the image a visual resonance. |
