In my sightsby snafflesComment: Greetings from the critique club.
Wow. Powerful image indeed. This was one of the few challenges I missed voting on due to being moved out of my house and other life chaos, but this indeed screams power and is a fantastic entry for the challenge. That this was a self portrait makes it all the more incredible to me.
The exposure used gave you that wonderful black background which really made the portrait pop. And that you so clearly captured wind really added impact. The expression is fierce.
On the left side of the image next to your jacked is a bit of something reddish off the elbow, then next to the hair on the left side a bit of yellow, that possibly weren't meant to be in the shot? I'm not sure exactly, but they seem like part of the background. (I had to really look quite a while before I noticed these, so I'm not sure I would say they bothered me at all, but perhaps others?)
Great job. I love the creativity!

Sun houseby GudjonottoComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hi Gudjon,
A solid entry into the low contrast challenge that received an above average score, so well done. This is a pretty piece of land you chose to photograph, and the clouds made it a perfect fit for the challenge.
For me the sun-rays through the clouds (or is that rain?) helped make the image. And technically your exposure seems right on. The difference between this image and some of the images that were my favorite in this challenge was that I just did not feel strongly pulled into the image. The location, while pretty, seemed a bit ordinary. (Although I know that definitely may not be the case, but it just didn't speak strongly to me that this was a site I would need to see in person). |

The photographerby GudjonottoComment: Hi from the Critique Club.
This is a beauty of an image, and it scored very well so the DPC community obviously agreed with me.
For me that curve in the northern lights balanced with the curve of the water made this image really special. I also liked being able to see the detail and color in the grass and the surrounding area. That gave the shot lots of context. I did not particularly like the red light from the other camera in the image, that distracted me a bit from the overall beauty of the scene. But I still gave this a 7 during voting, so I still thought it was a pretty spectacular capture. (Plus I liked the person in the scene, and that person came with the red light so I kind of overlooked it.)
Thanks for sharing! Looks like you had a nice evening. |
