Excellent idea. Wish the head of the middle guy was all in the frame, but you take what you can get sometimes.

Interesting lighting and processing in this one. Makes it nicely 'other worldly'. Good one.

Greetings from the Critique Club

These pencil shots are always interesting because they can be done so many different ways.

You selected a symetrical composition, and it almost works. I think if the bottom three pencils were in exact alignment with the upper group it would have helped and also, if all the tips were sharpened to the same degree. The camera records every little detail, so all these little things count! Finally, I think it would have also been nice if the bottom three leads were in color, as well. But all that said, you have a very nice clean image here and it presents well.

It looks as if you are enjoying your experience at DPC and I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

I looked with care at your image and while I was marshalling my thoughts, I decided to look at the comments you received on this photograph. Well, you were lucky enough to get a critique from StDavidson and he said all the things I was going to say and then some!

So my critique is: do what StDavidson says to do, and by all means, continue to enjoy your DPC experience.

Oh, what a lovely image! Yet you scored so very low.

This is the most clear-cut example of a subtle photograph our hasty voters found DNMC that I've seen yet. Of course it met the Challenge, but our hasty voters didn't take the time to find the blue eyes of the model.

You did a beautiful job of photographing this model and you can certainly feel good about that. You just didn't hit our voters between the eyes. (ooops, sorry about the pun)

I can only say "better luck next time" and keep up the very good work.

These vividly colored 'totem poles' are always a delight to find and this one, with its weathered patina, yet excellent coloration, was a good find, indeed.

I very much like the angle from which you addressed the main attraction and you captured the colors beautifully. I do have a bit more of a a problem with the placement in the frame. Probably because the sky gives the appearance of being almost uniformly gray. Maybe a little more d&b in the sky would have made those clouds evoke more moodiness and interest. It's my opinion (and I guess that's why I'm in the Critique Club; to give my opinion) that if that sky had been more exciting, this image would have really done very well. It has the potential of being very strong, indeed.

It was a pleasure to view this image again more closely.

Surreal! I always like tunnel shots, especially when well done, and I think this one is. Auto trails are 'a dime a dozen' but the combination is rare. You found a good example and ran with it.

Well, I'm here to critique so, recognizing your good score in a difficult challenge, I'll just add this: I wonder what would happen if you boosted the color on the tunnel walls. It's a bit subtle now, but with a little more colorful zing it might really pop.

I'm pleased to have had the opportunity to examine this image more closely.

Cactus blossoms are always so beautiful to find and to photograph. The obstacle course getting to them is sometimes half the fun.

I like, very much, the selective desaturation on the base of the flower. It gives the impression of an inward glow that is quite pleasing.

But my overall impression of this very nice image is that it is fuzzy. It's usually helpful if somewhere in the composition there is something that is tack-sharp to give the viewer something to stop at, and get bearings.

I like the idea very much and a little sharpness would make this image really zing.

Oh, it's Stan Hazelton; the one who gives such nice, gentle comments over at Post Processing Challenge. Hi.

I hope I can do as well on this very nice image I see before me. I agree wholeheartedly with your other commenters that you did a super job on the desaturation of these blossoms. It's a slow and meticulous job.

I'll do a 'however' here and suggest that if your background had been blurred out just a bit more into total obscurity this image would have popped nicely. The leaves and the blossom branch make an excellent composition by themselves; the background is a touch confusing.

Again, many thanks for your commenting skills.
