Grasshopperby ShannonComment: Interesting subject and setting. A bit more space at the top and right would improve the composition. And it really needs some post-processing to reduce the noise, increase the contrast, and correct the color cast. |

Dang computer bugsby mbardeenComment: Creative idea and great focus. But the background is too distracting; there is nothing to draw attention to the bug. And the subject is looking out of the frame, so it kind of feels cut off. |

Wetaby trainComment: The glare is a bit distracting, but this is a nice detailed image of an unusual insect. I like the wood it is on and the unfocused leaf in the background. |

Smily Eyes by JackoComment: Wow! Talk about getting intimate! Great composition here. It needs a little more DOF to get the hairs on the mouth and upper legs in focus. |

Ladybugsby Spork99Comment: I like the composition of this photo. The lines formed by the top of the rock and by the backs of three ladybugs in the foreground lead the eye to the main point of interest, the bug about to take off. A bit more space at the top would have improved the photo. |

American Hover Flyby ladpupmoeComment: Good focus and nice use of negative space. This image defies conventional wisdom that dictates putting more space in front of the subject than behind it, but I think it works well. Perhaps due to the shape of the leaf. But I don't think the photo would be nearly as effective without all that space behind the fly. The drop of liquid adds a nice touch. |

Fernandoby timmiComment: The challenge did say to get intimate, and giving this insect a name certainly shows you did that! But so does the photo; the composition is nicely balanced and the major lines in the image (focused grass blade, antennae, and wings to name a few) all lead the viewer's eye to insect's head, which is well focused. It let's the viewers get as intimate with this critter as you did. |

Twelve-spotted Pond Skimmerby quadangleComment: A bit more DOF would have been nice to get the wing tips in focus, but this is a great insect portrait. Lots of detail and well balanced. |

No Angel's Wingsby fleenkComment: Great composition; you've included just enough of the insect's body to provide context, and enough space at the right for balance. |
