Such a thing as overstudyingby kate12303Comment: Some people will say titles shouldn't "save" a photo, but a title "clarifying the blurriness" might have helped here, as there's a consistent prejudice here against soft- or out-of-focus pictures unless obviously and appropriately blurred. |

Searching For Signs Of Intelligent Life...by GeneralEComment: Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments!
I found it very amusing that, while the voting was going on, there was a forum thread regarding "saving" a photo by "funny" cropping. I so much wanted to use this image as an example...I don't think anyone has mentioned recognizing what otherwise might have been a pretty ordinary urban sunset photo...
For the curious, here is a link to the original frame from which I extracted my entry.

Multi-Talented: A College Student's Self Portraitby RiderGalComment: I think you conveyed the impossibility of adequately juggling study, social life, and bodily survival. I gave this a 7 the first time around.
I'm bothered most by the glare on the forehead, partly for the loss of detail, but more because I think it's a little inconsistent with the theme you're propounding. If the subject is falling asleep while studying, I expect a dim, late-night type of look. I suppose it could be early morning before the big exam, but it seems too bright for that.
Either the late-night or morning look could be partly compensated for and emphasized by putting into duotone mode instead of the current grayscale mode.
If you're not familiar with duotones, I'd be happy to post a couple of tests with your image -- send me an email. |

Fourby goodtempoComment: I want to see how it would look from about two feet to the right, to see if you'd then get four openings in the wall to the right to balance the four pillars. |

Eaglesby BeeGeeComment: Just hope that building's not in earthquake country! Nice positioning to catch the different angles on the heads and the building. Message edited by author 2003-01-04 14:30:40. |

A Dirt Cheap Modelby indigo997Comment: Definitely have to send this to a friend of mine after the voting! Can you get the same model for the B+W challenge? Obviously cooperative, and so much personality! |

The 4 basic food groupsby bstewartComment: You reind me of Herb Caen's contention that Irish Coffee is the perfect food, because it contains the four essential food groups: Caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and fat. |
