This is a bit too dark. (I found you in the watch reflection!) The chain needs alot more light to show it off. Multiple textures well displayed. Good focus and focal range. Nice angle of attack. I'm sure you got at least one comment about the watch not being square with the frame, who cares! I like that part fine. I just realized the stem of this watch is at 3:00, not 12:00, as my pocket watch is.
If this shot weren't so dark, I think I could have gone as high as 9, all other things equal, but as submitted I have to top out at 7 (started as a 6, please feel good!)

When this is over, check Tom Walthrop's entry, were you at the same dumpster?
Great color, focus, composition. I just wish rust were more visually appealing to me. The best I can go is 8 (for estitics, and Tom got the same score for the same reasons). Swash

Well taken shot, good focus, interesting angle, but honestly, I'm not fully thrilled. The pink/red starfish (I know it's dyed) looks unnatural and somewhat out of focus or hard to see clearly. The book cover is GREAT, but I'm thinking that is really your "background", but wait....I see lots of shadows on the book cover. This shot takes a longer than average view to "take it all in". I am certain others spotted this more quickly than me, but I am equally certain many did not look at the details of this shot. (I am finding the sledgehammer approach raises the quality of votes I get!) Very nicely subtle! Your score raises to match. Started at as a 6, but I have talked you up to an 8. Good job! Swash

I am having a hard time grading this shot. At first, I gave it a five, thinking the shot was just to bare, low texture value, but as I ponder this photo to write this text, I find it grows on me and the power of the smaller object pushes me to look at it more closely. (You're manipulating me!) Nice job. I still think the upper/middle section is a little overly bright, so less of the shell is as distinct as I would have liked to have seen it. I'm going to raise you up to a seven, as there are still a few problematic areas. I also think the negative area is too large. 7 Swash

For texture, this has quite a bit. I don't get the title, sorry, too square. If this really is what I think it is, eh, don't care for it. Photographically, this is a well done shot. It meets the challenge, but honestly, I don't want to give this a high score, sorry. It's just not in my range of taste. I'm going to stick with the 6, I started with. Swash

This is growing on me. I started you out as a five (my I don't know what to think vote), but pondering this text is giving me time to really view this shot. The subtle color changes, the lonely stag, the dramatic change of texture from farm land to scrub brush. You should return to this spot in different seasons, there is a lot of potential in this site. I really like the stag tree, knarled and windswept. It could be a subject all by itself. I think the texture value of this shot is low mostly because of it's sublty, I am going to grade you up, but not a long way. 7 Swash

This is an interesting pattern (along the maze type), but I really don't know what I am looking at (important to me). No common points of reference. Are the darker areas created from shadows? What is that item just off center? Is this water in a swimming pool, maybe in sepia? Title??? totally lost. 6 Swash

Cute shot. Great focus. I know it's "dramatic" to introduce large negative spaces, but personally, I have a hard time appreciating it. (Sort of like a song with 30 seconds of silence in the middle, it upsets me) You have great texture, but I just can't see more than 6. Swash

Good focus, but overall on the dark side. More contrast might have also brought out more detail in the bindings and increase the "interest" in this shot. 6 Swash

Nice turtle, good turtle! Overall, I think this is too dark. I am amazed the focus turned out as good as it did (most digi's have problems focusing in the dark). The light flares aren't so bad as to ruin the shot, in fact, I like the reflection in it's eye. I started this shot out with a 6, after reviewing it and composing this note, I am going to bump you up one. 7 Swash
