this is interesting texture.. this photo accomplishes the task of the challenge nicely but the overall impact of the image doesn't grab my attention. = 6 - jmsetzler

This shot would have benifitted from another angle, so you could see more of the face.

Did you try this at different camera levels, or was that possible. I think if you've could have gone eye to eye with this guy, that would have been cool. Of course, i understand that may not have been possible. Good idea. karmat

Nice turtle, good turtle! Overall, I think this is too dark. I am amazed the focus turned out as good as it did (most digi's have problems focusing in the dark). The light flares aren't so bad as to ruin the shot, in fact, I like the reflection in it's eye. I started this shot out with a 6, after reviewing it and composing this note, I am going to bump you up one. 7 Swash

Total Score7

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

The angle on this shot could of been better also the focus is slightly off.

an interesting texture. the two things you might consider improving are the composition and the lighting. try getting closer to the turtle's eye and filling about a quarter of the frame with it. also, avoid using direct flash, if you can, because it tends to wash out the colors and the detail.

What are the silvery specks on the image? From levels?

Lighting could be better, but I like the texture.
