Chasing Seagullsby fisheyeComment: That's a lot of birds - pretty good shot too! The saturation of the skin tones is a little high but I like the rest of it. |

What Lies Ahead?by glad2badadComment: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: I always like to see Lensbaby images in the FS. I like the way the light illuminates the steps and the sense of movement you have captured.
Critical stuff: If I'm honest, I'm not sure there's enough intrinsic interest in the scene for it to be a compelling image.
Overall: Quite nicely done but it isn't an image that appeals to me. |

Memories of Ameliaby njsabsComment: Very nice portrait image - great tones, great model, great background and I really like the vignette too. |

Positives: Interesting object and quite beautiful when we are asked to look at it in this way.
Critical stuff: I think too many of the technical are off to make this a great shot - your lighting is flat, the focus isn't quite there and I think there is quite a bit you could do in PP to bring out the texture and colour.
Overall: I can see what you were going for but I don't think you have fulfilled that vision. |

Intensityby jbsmithanaComment: Very good! My monitor shows a lot of background target banding but very good nonetheless. |

Positives: This is one to stop the viewer in their tracks! I love it - such energy. The stark black background works fantastically well and the blur makes the image.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Excellent work - confident, minimalist magic. |

Positives: Great image - the juxtaposition of the paw and tear against the expanse of plastic is really effective. Lighting is just right too.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all
Overall: I really like it - a simple (but inspired) concept, well executed. |

Positives: What a great scene / set-up; compositionally, it all hangs together really well and the lighting, coloration and post-processing all work with a perfect sympathetic synergy.
Critical stuff: The crop at the top and bottom - is the clipping justifiable? Your call, I'm just asking.
Overall: Very effective image. |
