How unusual is this--a manhole cover in a meadow? The gardeners placed squares of sod here to control erosion from rainwater runoff. I like the orderly yet random placement of the squares, & the way the grass is carefully trimmed back from the manhole cover.

I think muur88 has offered a great comment here. He has helped me see more in this image.

Not sure what the focal point is. I can't quite make out the manhole cover (?), so it's more distracting than interesting. Good pattern in the grass, but a higher vantage point would have helped.

Quixotic indeed. What is this?

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: I'm afraid I'm really going to struggle to put something here.... I suppose I do like the way that you have managed to capture / emphasise the joints between the piece of turf.

Critical stuff: I'm afraid I don't really get this image, there's little intrinsic interest and your PP does little to add to a quite boring scene.

Overall: Apologies, I'm sure you see something of interest here but it is beyond me.

The emblem kind of blends into the grass and at this angle I can't really tell what I am looking at.

I'm not sure what your trying to do here at all...

This has to be the most thought provoking submission for me so far, perhaps that makes it the most artful. I'm left wondering if there were enough clues provided and I'm a bit slow or if the details were intentionally left vague enough to make formulating a rational solution impossible. So I'm left wondering the true intent of the photographer. Perhaps the thought of nature overcoming man or that we could possibly overcome our destructive selves is an absurdity.
