paper wasp queen & nurseryby rozComment: Cool. I took 250 shots of a bee exiting its hive yesterday. I had removed the hive from my shed last week and yesterday I started hearing a crackling sound behind me. To my amazement there was one little wasp in there and it was hatching. It's still in my studio here next to me, it hasn't left its hive yet. If I let it outside it'll freeze, it's like 2 degrees Celsius here. Guess he'll be my pet for now. lol
Love the colors of this wasp, very different from the one I have here. Its eyes are brown too, and textured, very nice. After the challenge send me a PM and i'll upload a pic or two if you'd like. a big fat 9 for you. |

Blue Heron Preeningby hihosilverComment: Nice shot. It probably isn't scoring well though, just a guess. Not saying it deserves not to, don't get me wrong. What's that I see in the water? Some sort of tadpole mutation or is it a reflection? Like I said, cool shot. |

White Eleganceby JedusiComment: Great shot! Lovely composition and the softness to it is simply beautiful.
Glad to see i'm not the only one who forgets to enter. I had a good shot for the Work challenge but decided to have a nap at 10pm thinking it would have given me a fresh look at my image before submitting it. I woke up at 3am. yeah, fresh look.... ;] |

1-october 08 expert edit. a very small flyby rozComment: Great image Roz, I love insect shots, although they get a beating here at DPC. Great colour and I get this feeling of, like i'm looking in on something i'm not supposed to. He/she is in its little world and i'm peeking into it. Tonal values are superb.
Thanks for that link, very interesting stuff.
eta, I have to say how unbelievable his DOF is. WOW. I'm looking into that lens for sure. Message edited by author 2008-10-06 22:12:13. |
