very small fly .. he'd measure less than 1/8" or 3mm length .. i had to put on my glasses just to locate these little flies and my eyesight isnt THAT bad ..
two photographs taken in our yard combined .. the fly and some grass with a droplet on it ..
used canon Extension Tube EF12 II with 100mm lens ..

for your info ..
i have heaps of trouble staying still enough to get such small creatures in focus this close-up ... just breathing puts you out .. its nearly impossible to hold totally still ..
there's this guy in flickr called brian valentine, user name LordV, and he does THE most awesome macros of insects .. he also puts out tutorials of how he achieves the amazing results he gets ..
today i used one of his suggestions .. i held a long pole, which just happened to be a mop, with my left hand to brace myself and the camera .. a suggestion on how to brace yourself ..& because i held the mop i got a heap more shots in focus than i otherwise would have ..
i didnt use the mop for these shots coz they were taken in the grass .. i was sitting down with my arms braced against my legs ..
here's a link to some excellent suggestions on shooting macros macrophotography tips

So beautiful, Roz - it's dreamy and smooth. The colors are magnificent.

Yes, you are right - there is hardly a way to hold still, though I pride myself in having the hand of steel. Thanks for posting the tips on how to get a steadier camera, cuz - who uses a tripod?? lol! Not me! OX

Great image Roz, I love insect shots, although they get a beating here at DPC. Great colour and I get this feeling of, like i'm looking in on something i'm not supposed to. He/she is in its little world and i'm peeking into it. Tonal values are superb.

Thanks for that link, very interesting stuff.

eta, I have to say how unbelievable his DOF is. WOW. I'm looking into that lens for sure.

What a kingdom you've given this little critter to live in.
Lots of mystery and colorful surroundings here.
Now, I'm off to explore your link.

Very cool! I like what looks like a little alien head popping out from that thin blade of grass. Almost looks like a game of hide and seek, with the loser being lunch.

Cool macro, and what a great find, and being so tiny, and so in focus..... The extra layer completes this composition.
