Reaching outby dd1989Comment: In response to your post:
Choice of f/3.5 caused a narrow depth of field. Some of the waves are sharp, but the lighthouse is a bit fuzzy as a result. With that fast shutter speed, you had lots of room to use a narrower apeture. Choice of 35 mm lens ends up not wide enough for a sweeping oceanscape feeling but not zoomed in enough for the lighthouse to be the main subject. You position captures layer after layer of horizontal lines all the way across the image. That makes for a static feeling despite the waves and doesn't provide a path of interest for the eye to follow. Having the lighthouse almost all the way to the center makes this less dynamic too. Taking a different position to have the waves somewhat diagonal and the lighthouse more to the left would produce an entirely new feeling.
The colors are nice, and the subtle clouds do provide some interest. Might have processed to allow the top of the sky to be lighter, as a gradient from light blue to dark blue would provide another dimension of interest. |

Love that snowby tjstockton66Comment: My eye has a hard time settling on a main interest point - landscape, or frosted frond, or tufts of snow pattern, or something else. I want the snow pattern to dominate, but it would need to be sharper for that to work. |

Sunshineby LydiaComment: Refreshing to see when living with snow on the ground. I'm enjoying the diagonal composition and colors. |

The Lady and The Ice Fallsby TommyMoe21Comment: Good example of the importance of having some element in the image provide a clue to the scale. It would be hard to appreciate the massive ice flow without including the person. |

Straddle Jump on beamby tjbel05Comment: Nice capture of the crucial moment. LIghting details would be interesting to learn, as these meets are often difficult to capture well. The lower part of the image is a bit busy. Scrolling makes me think a crop through the beam might help by eliminating the skin tones of the hands and legs of the others without completely removing the context. |

illuminatusby AliciaComment: Light underneath is an excellent idea, taking this into the realm of science fiction transportation. The foreground begins to lose texture - might enhance the subject to crop away a bit of foreground, maybe enough to also eliminate the yellowish spot near the edge on our right. |

Eagles Glareby karenkComment: Just when I think I've oversaturated on eagle images, along comes this one done too well to ignore. Pose is out of the ordinary and technicals very good. |

Curiosityby got2bgutsyComment: Cute expression and nice choice of framing. I wish the distribution of light would have not so much more brightness on the background compared to the subject. |
