Test Your Snake-Phobia-Boundary !by MonaComment: HI from the CC and Happy new year! The lighting in this shot is poor and so is the background. Your idea however is good! What your shot conveys tho is that you or subject is very comfortable with snakes vs. phobia of them. I think you could of found a way to display the snake in a way that the lighting and the snake are much more prominant. I also think the shot would of done better if the car on the shelf was gone or moved. Maybe try to take shots outside if possible to get a warmer not so harsh light, or use some side lighting if can. There is also some glare from the light on the snake and the background, try to watch these reflections. Just a few thoughts.. hope it helps... happy shooting!! |

hanging on the edge of soberityby dtouch1Comment: Greeting and happy new year from the critique club. Your title here is what rescues this shot. It certainly makes you think not only subject but photographer had one too many. Here's my critique hope it helps...first of all this is not a flattering shot of your main girl (tho she does look drunk). There is a lot of 'stuff' in the background, the doorframe the white door, this extra hand attached to no body, the balloons? on the top. I think you could of improved this shot by doing a much closer crop to start. And perhaps be adding the hand only person. The lighting here is also blasée (indoor light is usually bad unless studio lighting of some sort). I try to stay away from it when I can. Well I hope that helps, I find focusing on one aspect of shooting at a time helps, I think working on backgrounds may be a good place to start.
Keep shooting and learning : )

Longingby jenesisComment: this shot is overexposed in the background on the grass, however despite this technical flaw the shot still pulls off a high emotive quality, the expression, composition and posture of the dog behind the fence make this shot much more than a pet shot. very well done. |

Tableauby zeuszenComment: Shot has a great emotive quality to it, the dark portion of the water on the horizon is especially inviting, there is a peaceful calm to this shot which is enticing. |
