REALLY wish his eyes we're open and the lighting was a bit more dynamic...

HI from the CC and Happy new year! The lighting in this shot is poor and so is the background. Your idea however is good! What your shot conveys tho is that you or subject is very comfortable with snakes vs. phobia of them. I think you could of found a way to display the snake in a way that the lighting and the snake are much more prominant. I also think the shot would of done better if the car on the shelf was gone or moved. Maybe try to take shots outside if possible to get a warmer not so harsh light, or use some side lighting if can. There is also some glare from the light on the snake and the background, try to watch these reflections. Just a few thoughts.. hope it helps... happy shooting!!

bad background!
the only good thing is - the snake against the black shirt.

beautiful snake, but the overall lighting is harsh and uneven with bounces off the wall that are distracting

Having access to such a great animal, you should have put more thought into composing the image instead of just a snapshot.
The car in the back, the wooden wall with the reflections disturb much. Also the skin colour is a little bit too red and overexposed.
However, with the title it fits the challenge well. A 5 from me.

The menecing color of the snake is lost in the black background. Good idea, maybe a tighter crop might have produced larger effect.

The snake could have more accent here and I would have chosen a more homogenic background, otherwise the idea is one of my favourites in this challenge! Take 8 from me.

This would have worked better with a plainer background. That car next to the man's head is really distracting.
