Car Graveyardby UrfaKComment: A nice subject which, like the previous commenter said, could perhaps do with a more imaginative composition that captures some of the key aspects you're trying to convey. |

Snow Falling on Cedarby MaryOComment: Beautifully composed shot and a lovely subject. I actually think you could have achieved a far superior bokeh with you 50mm 1.4 - the bokeh on this doesn't quite convince me and I reckon the DoF could be a little shallower as well. But none of that takes away from the fact it's very nicely done indeed! |

Tundraby lunachickenComment: Lovely shot, but I get the feeling you're caught between compositions here - in other words you either need less sky (to emphasise the thirds: trees, mountain, sky) or much more to create a more daring negative space. I know this was shot with a prime but perhaps an unorthodox portrait orientation? It's just a thought. It's the implied indecision which prevents the shot really working for me. |

Winter Berriesby cpanaiotiComment: Beautiful, delicate image with lovely bokeh. Often the 1.8 aperture is just too narrow but I think it's used very well here. Bit surprised at the mediocre score - they're a demanding bunch these voters! |

Web of Woodby Donna21Comment: Dazzling image processed to perfection. I suspect this would have scored very much higher in a patterns/symmetry challenge but fares less well in a free study. If it's any consolation I don't think you could have done this any better. |

Peu d'eauby ZoomdakComment: To be quite honest I'm a bit mystified this didn't score higher - I don't know it it's to do with the voter's ennui of flowing water shots, but this one is done really well. It's a pity the surrounding branches are lighter than the rest of the image (probably not ideal lighting conditions) as they divert our attention a little bit. But a well-executed shot nonetheless. |

First Encounterby rexComment: Ooh, here's one that got above a six and I'm not surprised. I think you realise that a smaller aperture would have been preferable to get the whole jellyfish in focus, but obviously the light conditions prevented that. In short, something very different, very well composed and very well edited. Good work! |

Room with a Viewby BAMartinComment: Perfect exposure, great composition with bags of character. There's so much detail in here to hold my attention. I don't think you could have conceivably taken this shot much better - the lack of 'wow' factor prevents a really high score but high scores are overrated! |

Into the Unknownby NatashaComment: This is just terrific. I wasn't sure at first but now I like the fact that there's no definition between the snow and sky - it highlights the unknown into which the man is trudging to hopelessly. Wonderful stuff. |

Cardinal by jmritzComment: Wow, I don't know how you managed to get that close to the bird with that lens. There's a real sense of perspective and an interaction with the bird which is excellent. As has been said before, it's not sharp, due probably to the inadequate shutter speed/focusing issues. A sharper shot would obviously have scored better, and I would have gone for a wee bit more contrast as well. |
