princess buttercupby ursulaComment: Whilst I didn't believe that this ought to win, I do firmly believe it should have been comfortably top ten - the site seems to be in one of its periods of lacking a real eye. I don't understand it - do people really think that there is anything unintentional in this shot? A shrug of shoulders and a move on to the next subject is all I can recommend - if it's any consolation, I should say that this is the most misunderstood shot in this collection. |

Beauty queenby LalliSigComment: There's a strange sense of the unnatural to this shot - in her expression: like she might just, perhaps, behind the make-up, be tired of smiling. I think it's the absolutel lack of any lines of expression around the eyes, the slight sininess of the make-up there. I quite like this idea of the character showing from behind the mask, but it's too subtle to make me belive it's genuinely deliberate. |

Esposa...by TerramarComment: Obviously competent stuff - I fear I find such games with composition rather dull, however. |

Oleanderby sherComment: I kind of like what seems to be the root of this image, but I don't much care at all for whatever it is that your processing has done to it - were it not for the depth of field, I would say it looks just like a 150% crop from a Fuji digital compact. Most odd, but too much about the weird process thing than about photography - in fact, I think you've actually masked the photography with this processing. |

Innocent Friendshipby neophyteComment: Amusing shot. Your colour balance is strange, point of view is very ordinary, focus seems a touch soft - at least there is certainly not the level of fine detail one would really want here - and the exposure seems very flat, lacking contrast. It's only the subject that makes this at all interesting to me - I'm not sure that's enough. |

Mother and Childby SeanachaiComment: Great shot. I would surely have wanted to show this in black and white: the image would be more about the expressions and textures, and I think the colour tones, whilst perfectly well caught for sure, to me seem to have nothing to do with the power of the shot. Also, people's reaction to black and white is more likely to give an image a quality of seriousness that this image surely deserves. Wonderful work. |

Hiking paradiseby RUEDISCHMUTZComment: Certainly a wonderful location. Fpr one thing, however, you have chosen a poor light to make an attractive shot - this very overhead sun leads only to a very high contrast between the grass and the trees - if you werre to darken this tto the level you need to to get some life into the colour of the grass, the trees would become nothing more than black lumps. The composition is well seen though - andd the use of that path to lead the eye is clever. Not wholly sure about your placemtn of that rock, though - it's cutting into the edge of frame makes it seem an acciddental inclusion, rather than a compositional decision. |

mystic river by arngrimurComment: Now this, to my eye, really is beautiful - because, I would say, it's about more than a simply pleasing scene or moment, and moves into the area of complication, of things suggested and unsaid, and it is that delightful ability of the art that nakes photography such a powerful thing. You capture a mood fantastically. |

Remembrance of Lost Soldiersby ManicComment: The colour toning in the foreground is very attractive, but the sheer brightness of that background just pulls the eye constantly, and I don't find anything there to warrant that. I do love the detail of the foreground though. |
