I really like this shot a lot. The perspective and the dull stucco colors and play of light tell a story of a place I do not know. Great shot. One of 4 10's this challenge from me.

Lovely shot. Wierd, it looked better to me the first time I looked at it. It seems a bit grainy now, may it's at a high ISO. Either way, one of 4 10's this challenge. Great job.

This was a remarkable photo and I'm surprised that it didn't get a ribbon, and frustrated, as you must be, that it came soooo close. Great job. I'm adding it to my favorites.

Greetings from the critique club:

There's not much to say here other than emphasize the other comments already made. You got a really good score with this and people gave you excellent advice so that you'll get an awesome score if you shoot it again. (This should be saves as an example of how DPC really works well for people!)

First off, the most distracting thing is the blur being in the front and not the back. I would say that you should use a very large DOF and get everything in focuse here; it would look better against the perfect blue sky in my opinion than a tighter DOF focused on one area. Which brings me to the next problem, the lack of a strong center subject that draws the eye. If you had a large DOF I don't think it would be necessary in a shot like this, but if you decided to go with a smaller DOF, or the one you chose, it is important to choose an area. This is difficult with the busy composition you've chosen. It might have been better to shoot from an angle, crop, etc, to find an area where all the tree limbs were going in one direction.

Overall, a quality photo of a beautiful subject that you could easily get a lot of nice pictures from. It would be cool to do a "study" of many pictures on the tree, including some macros of individual blossoms and a shot of the entire tree. What a nice find!

Keep up the good work.

Purple Peepers

Greetings for the Critique Club:

First, let me say that this meets the challenge very well. The purple peeps and the green eggs make a nice contrast. (they should make purple peeps, they look tastier than the yellow ones). Your idea is also excellent and the touch of the egg is really cute while at the same time being bizarre because it makes us realize how completely unnatural and alien the peeps look.

Some possible suggestions I would make for improving the shot:
First, I would set it up a little bit more balanced. I like the placement of the peeps, but the camera seems to be tilted at a slight angle. Also, I don't like that they are cut off. If you're going to do a very zoomed in macro and want to cut them off I would at least recommend cutting them off in equal amounts on each side.

Second, the lighting is a bit harsh and it makes the peep on the left overexposed and makes the grains pop out giving the image an overall impression of being out of focus.

Also, I would have liked the see the image composed differently so that the egg isn't so close to the bottom corner. It seems like the egg is what is supposed to draw my eye to it at first glance, but since it's almost on the border I find myself leaving the picture and going back to it. I would move it a little up and right, which would also bring more of the left peep into the frame. Don't put it dead center either, unless you've arranged the peeps perfectly symettrically around it.

I agree with the comment about the surface being distracting. It would have been better on a plain white or black table or something. I have the feeling htat it was on a grey marble table and that it turned into purple when you did adjustments in the channel mixer, but I could be wrong.

All in all, a nice Easter photo and I'm sure you still have some peeps around to experment with. Have fun, don't eat too many and get sick!

when i see pictures like this it makes me go insane thinking that i will never take such a thing, for lack of skill, a good camera, and fear of beeing stung. Awesome job. Going in my favorites. Congrats on 3rd.
