Lonerby MaryOComment: It's a treat to see the wildflower shots--you have made the wind visible in this one, I can almost feel the sun on my skin. |

Thistleby quicheComment: The light on this is just too cool for school. Sweet! The blue BG is perfect. |

Reach for the Skyby GeneralEComment: Aren't cactus flowers amazing. Especially coming from something as forbidding as a cactus. Those lovely delicate green/yellow colors are very eye-catching. The only cactus flower I know is the night-blooming Cereus & while this bears an intereresting resemblance...it's not that. It looks Tall, Arizona-tall.

Lavender Phloxby patio127Comment: The best thing about shooting outdoors is that awesome natural light & the green BG. WOW. This is beautiful. BTW, if you're going to be out for a while, it pays to take a double dose of vitamin B an hour or so ahead of time. Your body will get rid of the excess vitamin B in sweat & it makes your skin smell terrible to mosquitoes, gnats, flies, fleas, & ticks. FYI. |

Puffy_IMG_5184-DPC8.jpgby GeneralEComment: These are so appealling, I love good detail. And the color is lovely. I wonder what they are? I think I've seen them at the botanical garden, I will look for them next time. |

Datura-V_IMG_5176-DPC8.jpgby GeneralEComment: Sweet shot! We have these in the botanical garden here, in various colors, they are so pretty. A challenge to get a nice BG, though. The best bet is usually the deep shade behind them, as you captured here.
If this is a hanging flower, as it looks, it's an Angels Trumpet or Brugmansia. Datura, or loco weed, flowers open rightside up. The Angels Trumpet seed pod is smooth. The seed pod of loco weed is extremely prickly, called a 'thorn apple.' These flowers are so interesting. You can find datura growing in the boiling sun & brick-hard earth at the edge of a road or ditch--the flowers open up in the late afternoon, stay open all night for moths to pollinate, & are gone by noon the next day. The two are related, both are considered poisonous. Lots of info if you google. |
